How to Find Averages in Math
An average measures what is known as the central tendency of a group of numbers. For example, if you calculated the average of all your test grades for a certain class, the average would fall somewhere near the center of the group of grades. This average is more specifically called a weighted average, which is known as the "mean" in statistics. You only need to understand basic arithmetic to calculate the average.
Instructions

1
Add all the numbers together that you are trying to find the average of. For example, 10 + 15 + 17 = 42.
-
2
Divide the result by the number of numbers. For example, 42/3 = 14.
-
-
3
Round a decimal result to the number of decimal places specified in your problem. If the problem does not specify, one decimal place is often enough if you started out with whole numbers. For example, round 14.2540493 to 14.3.

Tips & Warnings
Multiply the average by the number of numbers to check your work. The result should equal the sum of all the numbers.
