Click the Windows XP "Start" button and select "All Programs." Click "Accessories," then click the "Communications" option. In the list of tools, click "Remote Desktop Connection" to open the connection window.

Type the IP address or the computer name for the remote computer in the opened Remote Desktop dialog window. Click "Connect" to make the remote computer connection. Notice a window opens that displays the remote computer's login screen.

Type the user name and password in the opened window. Click "OK" to log in. The remote computer logs you into the desktop, where you can now remotely control the settings and software.
