How to Find a Mean Difference
Mean differences are a form of statistical measurement, used to find the difference between two separate values. Means are alternative ways of describing averages, which are the statistical norm or expected values. The mean difference is simply the difference between two means, or two averages. To find the mean difference, you need to first calculate the averages of two sets of values and subtract the difference.

Count the number of figures in each set of numbers. For example, if you have three numbers in a single category, and three numbers in a second category, you will use "3" as the divisor in calculating the mean for each set.

Calculate the mean of each set of numbers. For example, for the average of 1, 3 and 5, you would add the numbers and divide by 3: 9 / 3 = 3. Additionally, the average of the set 2, 4 and 6 would be 12 / 3, or 4.

Subtract the lower number from the higher number to obtain the mean difference. In this example, 4 - 3 = 1.
