How to Use a Skil Stud Finder

The Skil stud finder helps locate supports behind wallboard. This is particularly handy when hanging art, shelves or any other item needing support from the timber studs. The Skil stud finder is a battery operated hand-held device that is recharged with an included AC adapter. A series of small lights provide the signals that indicate the stud location. A stud finder is a tool many experts say is a "must have" for the home workshop.

Instructions

1. Plug the Skil stud finder into a standard wall socket via the AC adapter to charge it. Unplug when the charge light glows green.

2. Turn the power on and hold the tip against the wall. Slowly run the tip up and down the wall, and side to side. As the device begins to detect a stud the four red lights along the tip begin to glow, one at a time. When all four light up, the stud is behind that area.

3. Mark the wall with a carpenter's pencil indicating the studs and support structures.

Tips & Warnings

• Plug the device back in after each use to make sure it is charged for the next time needed.
