Instructions

    • 1

Blend virgin coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil, and grapeseed oil in a glass bowl. Warm the oil in the microwave for about ten seconds. Alternatively, you can place the bowl in a pan of hot water for a few minutes to warm the oil. Add three drops each of essential oils of rosemary and lavender and two drops of sage oil. Stir with a wooden spatula until blended well.

Divide your hair into four sections. Test the warmed oil on the back of your hand to make sure it's not too hot. Massage a small amount of the oil into your scalp and then pull it through to the ends. Repeat the process for each section.

Cover your oiled hair with a plastic conditioning cap. Sit under a heating cap or bonnet dryer for 10 to 15 minutes. Alternatively, wrap your head with a hot towel and insulate the hot towel with a second towel to hold in the heat. When your time is up, shampoo and condition your hair as usual with your favorite products.

Tips & Warnings

  • For a deeper conditioning treatment, apply the warmed oil at night before bed, then shampoo and condition your hair the next morning.

  • Patch-test all oils you haven't used before on the inside of your elbow or on the nape of your neck to make sure that you don't have a negative reaction before you use them for a full head, hot oil treatment.
