How to Control the Sounds on an iPhone

The iPhone offers a variety of options when it comes to ringtones, message alerts and keyboard sounds for the most customized experienced. You can change almost every sound on the iPhone to fit your preferences, whether it's the sound your phone makes to alert you of an appointment or one that lets you know you have a new email. By accessing the "Sounds" menu from your phone's settings, you can toggle the sounds until you're happy with the customization.

  • Touch the "Settings" icon, which is located on your iPhone's home screen. Then, select "Sounds" from the resulting menu.

  • Toggle your vibrate on and off as needed. You may also adjust the volume by using the slider button under the "Ringers and Alerts" heading.

  • Change your ringtone by touching "Ringtone" and selecting from the supplied list of stock tones. You can also download new tones from iTunes. Once you pay for and download a new ringtone, it will automatically be added to your list of available ringtones.

  • Set the alerts for messages on your phone, including sounds for a new text message, received mail, sent mail and voice mail. You can preview the tones available by tapping once to hear what the tone sounds like.

  • Tap "Settings" to save your changes and return back to the "Settings" menu.
