How to Add FlashGet to Firefox

Save

FlashGet is a download manager designed to make downloading files faster and easier. Download managers were originally designed to help those with intermittent connections, such as dial-up. However, they can be convenient for those who do not have an always-on connection, and they can be a great choice for those who use mobile broadband to connect to the Internet. FlashGet is a standalone program but there is a Firefox extension called FlashGot that integrates FlashGet with Firefox. You need to install both the FlashGet program and the FlashGot extension to add FlashGet to Firefox.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer
  • Internet Connection
  • Mozilla Firefox browser

Install FlashGet

  • Start the Mozilla Firefox browser.

  • Go to the FlashGet website (see "Resources") in Firefox.

  • Click the green download button to download the latest version of FlashGet.

  • Click the "Save File" button on the download window that appears. A progress window will appear to inform you of the status of the download.

  • Double-click on the downloaded file to begin the installation process.

  • Click "Yes" on the User Account Control window to allow the program to make changes to your computer.

  • Click "Next" on the first window of the FlashGet Installation Wizard.

  • Click "I Agree" to accept the license agreement.

  • Click "Next" to accept the default installation folder.

  • Verify that there are check marks in all six boxes and click the "Next" button.

  • Click "Finish" to close the installation wizard.

  • Click the "Allow Access" button to give FlashGet permission to go through the Windows firewall.

Install the FlashGot Extension

  • Click "Tools" and then "Add-ons" in Firefox or choose "Add-ons" from the "Firefox" menu if it's available.

  • Type "FlashGot" without the quotes in the search field and press "Enter."

  • Press the "Add to Firefox" button.

  • Press the "Install Now" button.

  • Press the "Restart Now" button to restart Firefox after the installation. Go to "Tools," "FlashGot" to use FlashGet with Firefox. If the "Tools" menus isn't visible, press "Alt" to bring the old menus up; you can press "Alt" again to make them go away.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the download link on the FlashGet home page does not work, visit the download page on CNET (see "Resources") for another link.
