How to Add a Mailing List to Blogger

How to Add a Mailing List to Blogger thumbnail
Set up an automatic mailing list for every time you post to Blogger.

Google purchased Blogger, the free blogging software service, in 2003. Blogger does have the ability to send a single email out to email subscribers once a post is published, but to send the post to multiple emails, you need additional software. Google Groups can forward the email to as many people as you like. It requires a Gmail account, which is free to set up. It is a separate process to add a subscription box to Blogger so subscribers can sign up for the email list.

Instructions

    • 1

Open a web browser and go to the Google home page. Click "Sign in" and sign in to your Google Gmail account.

    • 2

Go to the Google Groups home page (see Resources). Click the "Create a group" button under "My groups."

    • 3

Type the name of the group, such as "Blogger Mailing List." The group email address automatically fills as you type the name of the group. For example, if you type "Blogger Mailing List," the group email address automatically becomes "blogger-mailing-list@groups.google.com."

    • 4

Type the group description. Click the radio button next to "Choose an Access level." Choose Public, Announcement-only or Restricted. Public means the group is open to anyone who wants to join. Announcement-only means only those who are invited can join. Restricted means only members invited can join the group.

    • 5

Click the "Create my group" button. In the "Add members" section, enter the email addresses of people to put on the Blogger mailing list.

    • 6

Type an invitation message. Click the "Invite members" button to send the invitation to the email addresses you added in the previous step.

    • 7

Go to the Blogger home page and sign in to Blogger. On the Dashboard page, click "Settings" and click "Email."

    • 8

Type the Google Group email address for your mailing list as the "BlogSend Address." Now when you post, everyone on the mailing list will receive an email.

Tips & Warnings

  • Create a Subscribe box for the Blogger blog. On the Google Group home page, click "Tune your group's settings." Click "Get a promotion box for your website." Copy the HTML code and paste it into an "HTML/Javascript" widget box on Blogger.
