How to Make Bold Letters in Excel

Microsoft Excel has many features to assist you with creating attractive and functional worksheets. The Home tab contains several formatting options, including the ability to change the font, size and color of text in your spreadsheet. The Home tab also includes features such as cut and paste, number formatting, cell alignment and conditional formatting. To make a cell, row or column on an Excel spreadsheet stand out, add a bold font. Applying a bold font to your cells does not change the size of the font -- it only adds thickness to the letters.

  • Open the Excel file in which you want to make bold letters. Enter text in a cell or multiple cells.

  • Click the cell or group of cells in which you want to add bold font. If you want an entire row or column to contain bold font, select the entire row or column by clicking the letter or number at the beginning of the cell or row.

  • Click the "Home" tab.

  • Click the "Bold" button. The Bold button is represented by a "B" and is located in the Font group.
