Microsoft Windows 7 is a solid choice as an operating system, coming with a slew of functionality. One major function involves automatic updates. These updates will keep your computer running smoothly and enhance your security to keep it up-to-date. You may, however, encounter an automatic update that you don’t wish to install. Following some simple steps will interrupt the update in progress and prevent it from installing.

Locate the automatic-updates icon in the bottom right-hand side of your screen. If you have an automatic update in progress, you will see this icon pop up. If it does not appear, you do not have an automatic update in progress.

Click the automatic-update icon. This will pop up the current automatic update. You will be able to see the nature of the automatic update in this dialogue box. If you don't want this update, you can interrupt it.

Hit “Cancel Update.” This will interrupt the update and cancel the download.
