How to Settle Agreements
A plethora of situations lead to negotiations. For instance, a lawsuit involving an auto accident can lead to settlement talks, or you may need to settle an agreement with your loved one over who will do the laundry this week. Almost all human interactions carry with them the need -- and the ability -- to settle. Follow some common procedures to successfully settle any agreement.

1
Listen to the other party. Let him state his case completely. Do not interrupt him but rather allow him to say whatever is on his mind. Take as many mental and physical notes as you can. This will help you refer to their argument later on in the negotiation process.
-
2
Give your side. Remain courteous, calm and calculated with your explanation. This will grow a bond of respect between you and the other person. A hostile tone will do little to advance your negotiations.

3
Wait for a price. You should always try to get the other person to name a price first. In general, the person first names a price has the lower hand in the negotiation process. Therefore, don't name your price until it is absolutely critical.
-
4
Negotiate. Naturally, one person will start high and other will start low. Try to settle on a number somewhere in the middle. The better negotiation skills you possess, the more likely you will be to settle the agreement more in your favor.
-
5
Finalize the settlement. Get the final agreement in writing. This will give legal effect to your procedure. Include some verbiage that states the settlement puts an end to any proceedings that may arise out of this action in the future. This will ensure your settlement finalizes your situation.
