How to Flatten a Conduit
Electricians generally use conduit to shield wiring in garages, basement and industrial applications. Conduit can also play a role in other repair applications. Items such as machinery bracing and tent poles often use a conduit-like pipe with one end flattened. You can easily use normal conduit to replace these types of fasteners by flattening the end yourself. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Measure the part you plan to replace with a tape measure, and cut the conduit to the proper length with a saw or pipe cutter.

2
Place the end of the conduit in a vise. Twist the vise handle to close the vise jaws and clamp the end of the conduit. Adjust the conduit in further for a longer flat surface.

3
Lay the end of the conduit you wish to flatten on a hard surface if you do not have a vise available. Strike the end of a conduit with a hammer to flatten the end.
-
4
Use a drill to place a hole in the flattened end if needed. Use the part you plan to replace as a template for position and size.
