For any window in your home, the best way to get a new screen that is sure to fit and operate properly is to purchase one that is specific to the manufacturer of your window. Generic window screens do not work as well. They are not guaranteed to fit perfectly in the track and may not slide as well. Inspect your window to determine the manufacturer. Look for a logo or writing printed on the bottom corner of the glass on the window. Write down all the information that is etched in the glass.

Determine the type of window and write it down. Double hung windows slide up and down. Sliders open side to side. Casement windows crank open outward and have hinges at the side. Awning windows crank open outward and have hinges at the top.

Run a tape measure along the length and width of the visible glass in the window and record the measurements. The screen size will match these measurements. Write down the exterior color of the window even if it is white. Many manufacturers offer a variety of different color windows and the color of the screen needs to match the color of the window.

Take all of this information to a local hardware store so an associate can order the proper screen for your window.
