How to Develop Focus
There are constant distractions around us every where we turn. Whether it is our cell phone, email or even a noise in the background while we are trying to study or read -- distractions are everywhere. Though these distractions are common, the way to combat them is to develop a discipline for staying focused. Creating focus does require some time and patience, but once you have learned how to keep yourself focused you will notice that you are much more productive.

1
Create goals so that you have something to be focused on throughout the day. Make a list of goals on your computer, your phone or on a piece of paper each day when you wake up (or each night before you go to bed) and ensure that you check the list throughout the day to keep yourself on track. Write down why you need to complete these goals for the day and at the end of the day write down why you did not complete the goals (if necessary).
-
2
Break a larger project into a smaller one. Create a to-do list for a project by breaking it down into categories and items that will reach the same end result. For example, you have a large report to write. Start with smaller tasks such as research, outline, first draft and revisions to get to the end result of a completed report.

3
Prioritize what is and isn't important. Do tasks that are urgent first, such as meeting a deadline at work and leave tasks that are not urgent for the end of the day. Keep your priorities in the forefront of your mind throughout the day and be aware of when you start to drift away from them. Do not allow distractions that take you away from your priorities to interrupt the process of completing them.
-
4
Start out slow in the process of gaining focus. Give yourself one or two tasks each day that you can easily complete and then slowly add more tasks each day until you are able to focus on an entire list every day. Do not overwhelm yourself with more than you can reasonably handle in one day and be patient with gaining focus.

5
Kill procrastination by asking yourself questions. Ask yourself if the job needs to be done today. Ask yourself how much time the job needs to be completed correctly and efficiently. Ask yourself if this job can only be done by yourself. Use the answers to these questions to motivate yourself to stop procrastinating and get the job done.
-
6
Reward yourself with a gift, a trip to your favorite restaurant or simply a positive attitude if you are able to complete a task on your goal list for the day. Continue to be positive the next day when you create you new list of goals to complete.
-
7
Remove distractions from your daily life at times when you need to focus. Turn off your cell phone, lock yourself in a quiet office or wear headphones to block out outside noise.
