How to Water Ski for Kids
Water skiing can be a fun sport for a family as long as everyone has been taught how to ski safely. This can be a challenge for children, but with the proper steps and slow easy lessons, they will be on the water in no time. Children can begin learning how to water ski at a relatively young age. Their muscle tone and balance are the two main factors to determine if they are ready, rather than an age limit.

1
Purchase the proper equipment for water skiing that is the right size for the child. If the child is preteen or small for his age, then buy skis that are shorter as well as the proper size life jacket.
-
2
Set up the first lesson in the backyard with no water. Teach the child how to stand and move while wearing all the equipment used during a real ski excursion. The child not only learns positioning, but also the feel of the equipment and how it moves.

3
Move on to a shallow pool only a few feet deep where you can be there next to her and teach her how to sit in the water, how to hold the rope and how to stand from a sitting position when pulled by the boat.
-
4
Practice near the shoreline of a lake and teach him sitting and positioning in shallow water in lake conditions. Show him the currents of the lake as well as the wakes created by the boats. Attach the rope to the boat and give the child the opportunity to be pulled by the boat and to stand from a sitting position.
-
5
Pull the child out in the lake slowly, so he can get the hang of skiing and using the information he learned to actually ski on the water. Stop the boat and turn around if he falls, which likely will happen often. Speed up gradually as he gets used to skiing.
