How to Make a Fake Pop
When filming and independent movie or staging a play, it's often a requirement for a character to drink a can of pop of an imaginary brand. This avoids copyright issues, as well as the ethical problems posed by inadvertently advertising a known product. Making your own drinkable, fake can of pop is as easy as posting a new label on a real can, though it is important to make a label that fits well and looks like it could be a real brand.

1
Create a template or page in the image editor measuring six and a quarter inches by three and a quarter inches rectangle. This is the measurement of a standard pop can label.
-
2
Imitate the standard pop can label design to create your own; this uses two identical labels side-by-side, each taking up a third of the width of the label. Use the remaining third of the label for additional information.
-
-
3
Add a "nutrition facts" label to the pop can design from an online source (see Resources) or scan in your own from a a food item in your home. Supply a UPC symbol in the same way. Place these items in the remaining third of your can label design.
-
4
Print the label with high quality settings on a sheet of glossy paper.
-
5
Cut out the pop can label using a craft knife on a self-healing mat or cutting board, or use a paper cutter.
-
6
Lay the label upside down on a sheet of newspaper. Position the cutting board or mat beneath this to give you a hard surface, or work on an area like a kitchen floor.
-
7
Spray the underside of the label with spray adhesive. Coat every inch to ensure that the entire label sticks even.
-
8
Locate the vertical seam on the side of the can of pop. This is usually on the opposite side from the logo portion, near the nutrition facts.
-
9
Line up the seam line with the edge of the glue-coated label. Carefully roll the can of pop over the label, causing the adhesive to stick to the can and secure the label in place.
