Stop the avalanche of Facebook subscription notifications to your phone by visiting your Account Settings online.

Hundreds of different notification combinations are available on Facebook. You can elect to have Facebook send you emails or SMS text messages for various events, including when someone friends you or sends you a message. You can even have Facebook send you texts only during certain hours of the day. It is all highly customizable. Turning off the notifications may be a bit trickier, as you may not remember which options you selected. Luckily all of the options for receiving SMS texts from Facebook are on two main pages in your Facebook account settings: "Mobile" and "Notifications."

Log in to Facebook, click "Account" in the top-right corner and select "Account Settings."

    • 2

Click "Mobile" in the menu bar near the top of the page.

    • 3

Click "Remove" next to your phone number under "Mobile Phones" if you want to completely remove your phone number from the Facebook system. This will stop all SMS messages from Facebook to your phone, and you will have to reenter the number into the system if you want to turn it back on later.

    • 4

Tick the "off" radio button under "Facebook Text Messages" if you want to stop all Facebook text messages from going to your phone. Your number will remain in the system for easy reactivation of subscriptions later on.

    • 5

Tick the checkbox labelled "Send text notifications only from friends" if you want to stop non-friends' comments from going to your phone as text notifications.

    • 6

Click "Remove" next to a friend's name under "Whose status updates should go to my phone?" if you want to stop receiving texts every time that friend posts something to Facebook.

    • 7

Tick the "No" radio button under "Should a confirmation text be sent when I message, Wall post, comment, poke, upload photos, or set my status from my phone?" if desired.

    • 8

Click "Save Preferences" at the bottom of the page, then click "Notifications" in the menu bar near the top of the page.

    • 9

Deselect any checkboxes at the far right side of the main window under "SMS." This deactivates SMS messages from Facebook to your phone for specific events like when someone posts to your Wall, comments after you on a comment thread anywhere on Facebook, "pokes" you or any of a dozen other events. All of the events are described at the far left side of the main window.

    • 10

Scroll down to the bottom of the "Notifications" page and click "Save Changes."
