They mount directly to the window casing or on brackets on the inside of the window casing. Roman shades are an attractive option to shade windows. They provide an elegant yet streamlined look. Things You'll Need

  • Roman shade, with mounting screws
  • Drill
  • 1/16-inch bit
  • Screw gun

Instructions

      Hold the head rail at the top of the shade in the window opening. Center it on the bottom edge of the top window casing.

      Drill a 1/16-inch pilot hole through the holes in the shade's head rail into the bottom edge of the window casing using a 1/16-inch drill bit. Drill at least 1 1/4 inches deep into the casing. Remove the shade from the window opening and brush off any dust left from drilling.

      Position the head rail of the shade in the window opening so the holes are aligned with the pilot holes. Drive the included 2-inch screws through the holes in the head rail into the window casing to secure the shade in place using a screw gun.

Tips & Warnings

  • Select a neutral colored shade so that it will not be a focal point within the room.

  • Wear eye protection when operating power tools.
