Send a text message to any cell phone from the Web.

If you don't have a text-messaging plan for your cell phone, or if you don't have a cell phone at all, you can still send text messages. There are a number of Web-based text-messaging services that will send a text message directly to the cell phone number of your choice. One advantage to this kind of service is the enhanced anonymity of your message. Sending a message this way is a straightforward process, and only takes a few moments.

Instructions

    • 1

Select a Web-based Internet-to-text message service on the Internet. Select a service from the list in Resource 1, or search the Web for the phrase "text from internet" for a multitude of results.

    • 2

Enter the cell phone number of the person you want to text.

    • 3

Choose from the menu the cell phone service provider of the phone you wish to text.

    • 4

Enter your email address. This is how you will receive any replies.

    • 5

Enter the CAPTCHA text if necessary. A CAPTCHA is the garbled-looking text that allows the website to identify if you are actually a person.

    • 6

Enter the message you want to send. Just like with any other text message, its length is limited to 160 characters.

    • 7

Click the "Send" button--or any similarly titled button, such as "Send Message" or "Send Text."

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want the recipient of the message to know your identity, include your name in the message. Your usual contact information won't be connected to the text message sent from the Internet. If you want to remain anonymous, then don't include your name. Enter an unidentifiable email address if you truly wish to remain

  • anonymous.
