How to Make a Toga From a Flat Sheet

The word toga is derived from the Latin "tegere," which means "to cover." In ancient Rome, the toga was worn exclusively by men. Today, toga parties are attended by both men and women and it's common for women to wear a toga alongside the men. Tying your toga is simple, but may require a couple of practice runs to adjust the folding of the toga to best fit your height and girth. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Fold the sheet in half lengthwise. That is, take the two corners on the long side of the sheet and meet them together with the opposite two corners.

    • 2

Hold the sheet up to your body so the folded side is at your waist and the unfolded edges are near your feet.

    • 3

Wrap the toga around your waist once or twice (depending on your size) and use a safety pin to pin the two sides of the wrapped toga together at your hip.

    • 4

Toss the remaining length of sheet over either your right or left shoulder. Leave the toga loose like this or bring any excess fabric from your back around to your front and use pins to secure it to the front of the toga. Where you choose to pin it is your choice.

Tips & Warnings

  • As an alternative, you can also wrap the toga around your torso with the top (folded) edge at your chest. Leave the corner from your first wrap, free outside of the fold, near your shoulder. Tie it to the other corner (over your shoulder) that remains after you wrap it around your body.

  • If you're going out, consider wearing a tank top or other undergarments beneath the sheet.

  • Leave your expensive sheets at home and opt for an inexpensive sheet in case it gets stained with drinks or food.
