How to Add a Trusted Application With Flash Player Security in Ubuntu

Adobe Flash Player 8 introduced a stricter security model to prevent Flash applications from communicating with other websites on the Internet. If you have a Flash application on Ubuntu Linux which requires access to the Internet and expects the older security model to be in place, you'll have to add it as a trusted application in the Flash Player's Global Security Settings panel before it can access the Internet. This panel is located on Adobe's website.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Applications" menu at the top of the Ubuntu desktop, click "Internet" and click "Firefox Web Browser."

    • 2

Open the Global Security Settings panel webpage at macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager04.html on Adobe's website in Firefox.

    • 3

Click the "Edit Locations" box in the Global Security Settings panel on the page.

    • 4

      Click "Add Location."

    • 5

Click the "Browse for Folder" button.

    • 6

Browse to the folder on your computer containing the flash application you want to trust. If it's in a hidden folder, right-click in the file browser window and click "Show Hidden Files."

    • 7

      Click "Open."

    • 8

      Click "Confirm."
