How to Practice Typing Faster
Practice might make you a fast typist, but unless you are accurate too, no one will be able to understand what you've typed. For anyone who uses a computer with any regularity, typing is becoming a commonly needed skill, and one that is not always taught at school. Typing skill and speed come with practice, and not just practice, but perfect practice. Typing faster can also save you time for other things you prefer to do.

1
Take a typing test to determine your current speed. Many websites have typing games and tests that tell you how fast you type. These tests also measure your accuracy.
-
2
Download or purchase a typing tutor for your computer. A typing tutor is a computer program designed to help you develop your typing skills. Some use games and fun activities to achieve the desired result, while others are more straightforward and instructional in nature. Choose one that suits your learning style and use it once a day to increase your muscle memory on the keyboard.

3
Sit up straight when you type and place your hands properly on the keyboard. Your fingers should always start at the home position, with the left hand hovering over the A, S, D and F and the right over the J, K, L and semicolon keys.
-
4
Look up at the computer monitor or over at your paper or book instead of down at your hands. You have to let your hands take over and remember where the letters are instead of constantly checking to reassure yourself.
-
5
Ignore typos at first when practicing to increase speed. You can go back later and correct them, but at first, try and just type without worrying about it.
-
6
Practice every day to increase your speed. Test yourself often to see how you've improved.
