How to Add Books to iPads

Apple's iPad is a tablet computer that you can use for a variety of purposes including using it as an e-reader for digital books. If you have downloaded digital book files in the EPUB or PDF formats, the files can be added to the iPad using Apple's iTunes software. By syncing your iPad with iTunes, the books in your iTunes library are added to the iBooks app, where you can browse and read your digital library on the iPad's touch screen.

Things You'll Need

  • Digital books in EPUB or PDF format
  • iPad data cable
  • iTunes software
  • Open iTunes. Click "Books" in the left-hand menu. Drag and drop your e-book file from your computer onto iTunes.

  • Plug your iPad into the computer using the iPad data cable. Click the iPad icon in the left-hand panel of the iTunes screen.

  • Click the "Books" menu from the top-right corner of the main iTunes screen.

  • Click the "Sync Books" check box. Click the "Selected books" radio button.

  • Check the check boxes next to the books you want to add to your iPad.

  • Click "Apply." The iTunes sync process begins, adding the selected book to the iBooks app on your iPad.

Tips & Warnings

  • When adding digital book files to iTunes, make sure the file format is either EPUB or PDF. The iBooks application recognizes only these file types.
