A permanent marker, while useful around the house, is a real nuisance if the ink gets anywhere you do not want it. For example, while writing on labels or creating posters on countertops, you might accidentally get permanent ink on the counter. When this happens, try not to go into panic mode. You might still be able to save your countertops from the permanent-marker stain.
Things You'll Need
- Hair spray
- White cloths
- Lemon juice
- Table salt
- Nail-polish remover
Cover the permanent marker on your countertops with hair spray. Blot with a white cloth to lift as much of the stain as possible. Rinse with a water-dampened cloth.
Apply toothpaste to remaining permanent marker. Toothpaste can remove permanent marker from various surfaces, including countertops. Allow the toothpaste to sit for at least 10 minutes. Rinse with a water-dampened cloth.
Cover the permanent marker in lemon juice and a generous amount of table salt if your countertops are white and stain remains. Mix to create a paste-like consistency, rubbing it into the stain with your fingers. Let it stand for one hour. Rinse with a water-dampened cloth.
Apply nail-polish remover to a cloth if a hint of the permanent marker remains. Blot the stain lightly to lift. Rinse with a water-dampened cloth.
Tips & Warnings
- Perform a color-fast test to confirm that the nail-polish remover will not harm your countertops.
