How to Prune Fuchsia Houseplants
The fuchsia, native to South America, is a trailing flowering houseplant. The flowers, in shades of red, purple and pink, droop from the branches, creating a graceful focal point. To produce these flowers, you gardeners must prune the fuchsia. Thankfully, it blooms on new wood, so even the novice fuchsia grower won't destroy the flowering season. Prune the fuchsia houseplant in January or February while it is dormant. Make sure that your pruning shears are sharp so that you don't crush stems and branches. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Cut all weak, thin and dead growth back to a main stem. Pay close attention to the interior of the plant, otherwise you will have flowers only on outside branches.
-
2
Shorten the entire plant to 4 to 8 inches above the level of the soil.

3
Pinch 1/2 inch from the tips of all stems when they have three pairs of leaves. This prompts the fuchsia to produce more branches. Repeat this process several more times as the plant grows.
