How To Add a Language In Windows Vista

Windows Vista is capable of running many different languages. If you are in a multilingual home or are fluent in many languages, you may want to add support for more languages to Vista. Installing a new language will let you alter all help documents, labels and instructions within the operating system.

Instructions

    • 1

Click "Start," then click "Control Panel" on the right side of the menu.

    • 2

Click "Clock, Region, and Language" from the Control Panel list.

    • 3

Select "Language and Regional Options" by clicking it.

    • 4

Open the tab labeled "Language and Keyboards" found at the top of the newly opened dialog window.

    • 5

Select "Install/uninstall languages." Next select "Install display languages."

    • 6

Select "Launch Windows Update" and choose your language in the Windows Update utility. The language pack will be downloaded and installed. This requires an Internet connection and may take more than 20 minutes on a slow broadband connection. Windows Update will automatically install the language pack according to your system's update policy when it finishes downloading.

    • 7

Re-open the Keyboards and Languages tab within "Regional and Language Options" dialog.

    • 8

Select the language pack you installed from the list of languages, then click "OK."

    • 9

Restart your computer when prompted to activate the new language.
