How to Spray Metallic Paint for the Best Sparkle Effect
Metallic paint naturally contains a small amount of sparkle on its own. However, to enhance that natural sparkle and enjoy the paint's shine and brilliance, a few additional steps and products are necessary. Adding a coating of glitter paint and a high-gloss glaze over the metallic surface will cause the paint to sparkle and shine in the sun with a brilliance that is almost blinding in direct sunlight.

1
Clean the surface that you want to paint with all-purpose cleaner and a soft cloth. Do not use all-purpose cleaner to clean wood. Allow the surface to dry for at least two hours.
-
2
Sand the surface with fine grit sandpaper to remove rough areas and uneven texture. Wipe the surface with a damp rag to remove grit from the surface. Allow the surface to dry for one hour.

3
Spray the object with the metallic paint. Spray a very thin coat that just covers the surface under the paint. Allow the paint to dry for two hours. Repeat the process two more times for a total of three coats. Allow each coat to dry for one or two hours before applying the next coat.

4
Spray a coat of clear glitter paint over the metallic paint on the surface. Allow the glitter to dry for one hour.

5
Spray a coating of gloss glaze paint over the surface. Spray the coating on somewhat thick so there is a thick layer of gloss over the paint underneath. Allow the gloss to dry for two hours and apply a second coating. Allow the object to dry for 24 hours before using it or placing anything over the paint.
