How to Practice Pager Etiquette

Rate: (3 Ratings)

Some people become so enamored with their pagers that they begin to misuse them, often to the irritation of others. Follow these easy guidelines to ensure that you'll get the most out of your pager and still have enough friends to justify having one.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Pagers
Step1
Leave your pager at home if you're going somewhere where you'll know it will be disruptive. Movies, plays and churches are examples of places where pagers generally don't belong.
Step2
Set your pager to vibrate whenever possible.
Step3
If you're waiting for an important page at an event, sit near an exit so you'll disturb as few people as possible on your way out to the lobby.
Step4
Avoid taking your pager along on a romantic evening. Your date won't be impressed; he or she will more likely feel neglected and unimportant.
Step5
Decide whether or not to respond to a page immediately by judging how important it is. Avoid getting into the habit of running to the phone every time your pager goes off.
Step6
Avoid giving your pager number in place of a telephone number. This can send an array of confusing signals, such as you can't afford a phone.
Step7
Avoid getting carried away with pager codes and other cute pager uses. These things can grow tiresome very quickly.

Tips & Warnings

  • Pagers can still be heard when set to vibrate. All though the low rumbling is less disruptive than the alternative, it can still be irritating in a quiet environment.

on 11/22/2005 If you have a pager and you want to make it obvious, use a pager chain. Don't let it hang off your collar or shirt. It just makes you look like a SHOW-OFF!
