How Do We Know If a Divorce Has Been Granted?
Some people cannot wait for their divorce to be granted, while others dread the day that they are no longer married. Because of this, some people are more involved in the divorce process than others. In fact, some people pay so little attention to the process that they do not realize that the divorce has been granted because they have been living their life as if they were already divorced. However, some situations require that you know for sure that your divorce has been granted.

Attend the final hearing. If you have an uncontested divorce, you may not be required to attend the final hearing for your divorce. However, if you do attend the hearing, you will hear it from the judge's mouth that your divorce has been granted.

Contact your attorney's office to inquire about your divorce status. When the judge signs off on the final divorce papers, a copy is mailed to your attorney who in turn will mail you a signed copy. If you did not use an attorney, the courts will mail your copy directly to you.

Call the courthouse where your divorce hearing took place. They will be able to check the records and let you know if your divorce has been granted. If you need a copy of your finalized divorce decree, you may need to submit a request in writing or in person and pay a fee.

Check online. Some states have a Web site for court cases where you can search for your name. Some information is available through these websites, including whether or not your divorce was granted.
