The Google Toolbar is one of many innovative products released by Google.

The Google Toolbar was first launched in 2000 and has had a number of upgrades since, adding more features and improving the functionality. The toolbar integrates Google's features directly into your browser, with versions available for Internet Explorer and Firefox. Using the toolbar, you can access Google data, such as saved Google bookmarks, from any computer, once you have logged into your Google account. Local features include a pop-up blocker and AutoFill, which can automatically fill in form fields on web pages with your saved details at the click of a button.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the web browser on which you have Google Toolbar installed. Versions of the toolbar are available for both Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox, and the toolbar functions the same in both browsers.

    • 2

Click on the blue wrench icon on the right of the Google Toolbar to open the toolbar settings.

    • 3

Click on the "AutoFill" tab in the toolbar settings and then click on the "AutoFill" check box to enable the feature.

    • 4

Click "Add New Profile" from the "Profile" section of the AutoFill settings. A new window will open, allowing you to enter your AutoFill data, such as your name, address, email and telephone numbers. Leave blank any details that you are not happy storing. Save your data and close the window by clicking the "Save" button. This profile will now be used to automatically fill in relevant form text fields. You can turn off the AutoFill feature at any time by clearing the "AutoFill" check box.

    • 5

Click "Add New Credit Card" in the AutoFill settings to have AutoFill store and automatically fill in your credit card details. For security, click "Require Password to Access Credit Card Information" to add a password that must be entered before the details are entered into a web page. You must enter your chosen password twice to confirm that it has been typed correctly.

    • 6

Browse to a web page with a form requiring details from your AutoFill data. Move the mouse over the "AutoFill" button on the Google Toolbar. You will see that any fields that can be filled in automatically by AutoFill are highlighted with a yellow background. Click the "AutoFill" data to have these fields automatically completed.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always enter a password if you choose to store your credit card information for use with the AutoFill feature; otherwise, other people who use the computer may be able to use your credit card information.

  • The Google Toolbar also has a spell-check function, which can automatically check the spelling of text entered into form fields.
