How to Disinfect Makeup Brushes After an Eye Infection

Makeup brushes need cleaning frequently.

Disinfecting your makeup brushes is often a task many people don't think about when cleaning. Germs cling to the bristles or foam of the makeup brushes every time you use them. Disinfect your brushes after about 20 or 25 uses. If you use the brushes and have an infection, like pink eye, throw away the brushes to avoid spreading the germs. Vinegar and antiseptic wipes kill germs without damaging the brushes.

Things You'll Need

• Spray bottle
• White distilled vinegar
• Antiseptic wipes

Instructions

Vinegar

1. Fill a clean empty spray bottle with white distilled vinegar.

2. Tap the handle of the makeup brush gently on the edge of a sink to knock out any loose makeup.

3. Spray the brush with the vinegar until it is soaked. Set the brush on the edge of the sink to dry. Do not use the brushes when they are wet.

Antiseptic wipes

1. Remove the antiseptic wipe from the packaging and unfold it.

2. Wipe off the bristles of the brush with the wipe. Do not grab the bristles and pull as it may cause some to fall out.

3. Throw away the antiseptic wipe. Leave the brush to dry for at least 12 hours before using. Using the brush when it's wet can cause the alcohol in the wipe to get into your eyes and burn them.
