How to Convert a 5th Wheel to a Gooseneck
A fifth-wheel hitch is flat metal plate similar in shape to a horseshoe. They are usually used to tow large trailers such as recreational vehicles by mating with a matching component located on the underside of the trailer. This matching component is called a kingpin. Converting a 5th wheel trailer hitch to a gooseneck requires that an adapter be attached to the kingpin.

1
Place the gooseneck adapter on the kingpin of the 5th wheel hitch, according to manufacturer instructions. Fasten it down using the hardware provided with the gooseneck adapter. These are typically either set screws or clamps. Tighten the screws or clamps with a wrench or screwdriver, whichever is appropriate.

2
Raise the trailer on its integral jacks so that there is enough clearance for the rear of the truck to pass underneath. Back the truck up until the gooseneck ball in the truck bed is directly beneath the receiver located on the underside of the trailer.

Ensure the gooseneck coupler on the bottom of the trailer is unlatched. Lower the trailer on its integral jacks until the receiver is seated on the gooseneck ball hitch. Retract the jacks fully. Secure the coupler according to the instructions of the adapter's manufacturer.
