Start your MacBook Air from a clean slate by reinstalling Mac OS X 10.5.

When it is time to give your MacBook Air a fresh start, installing Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard is a proper place to begin. Before moving forward with the installation, it is important not to install a version of Mac OS X earlier than the one that came with your MacBook Air. Installing an earlier version of Mac OS X may cause your MacBook Air to experience trackpad problems, audio/visual issues, or the system may not boot. MacBook Air models that run Mac OS X Leopard include the original MacBook Air, and the late-2008 and mid-2009 models.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect a MacBook Air Superdrive to the MacBook Air's USB port and insert the Mac OS X 10.5 installation disk.

    • 2

Restart the MacBook Air holding the "C" key until the Apple logo appears on-screen.

    • 3

Choose a language and click the right-arrow button.

    • 4

Select your MacBook's hard drive, usually named "Macintosh HD," and click "Install."

    • 5

Restart the MacBook after the installation completes.
