How to Check Grammar With AbiWord

AbiWord -- an open-source word processor -- includes all of the functions you'd expect to find in a publishing utility, but you may find that the program's spell-checking functions may not be enabled. AbiWord's spell checker is treated as an optional plug-in. And with a short re-installation of the software, you can installed the spell checker and keep your documents free of spelling and grammar errors.

Instructions

      Download a free copy of the AbiWord installation file. You'll need to reinstall the program, if you have AbiWord currently installed but grammar check is disabled.

      Double-click on the file to launch the program's installation wizard. Select your language from the "Please select a language" menu box. Click "OK."

      Click "Next" on the welcome screen. Click "Next" at the "License Agreement" page after reviewing the license.

      Check the "Grammar Checker" option in the list menu on the "Choose Components" page, and then click "Next."

      Click "Browse" on the "Choose Install Location" page to select a location to install Abiword and then click "Next." You can simply click "Next" at this page and use the default installation location.

      Click "Next" on the following page to finish the installation of AbiWord and its Grammar Checker.

      Launch click on the "AbiWord" icon on your desktop to launch the program. Click on AbiWord's "Tools" heading, and then select the "Set Language" option from the Tools menu.

      Select a language from the "Set Language" menu to set a language for the Grammar Checker to use. Click "OK."
