How to Change the Color of a Border in PowerPoint

When building a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, much of the focus is on getting the textual information onto the electronic slides. But PowerPoint's default setup, black bullet points on a white background, can get a bit dreary on the eyes. To help users design artistic elements for their work, PowerPoint comes with options such as the ability to add colored borders to text boxes, images and media elements, and once added, to change those border colors quickly.

Instructions

    • 1

Open PowerPoint. Click the "File" tab in the top-left corner of the workspace. Click "Open."

    • 2

Browse to the presentation with the border color to change. Double-click the file name, opening the presentation in the PowerPoint workspace. Scroll to the first slide with a border to change.

    • 3

Click once on the border of the image or item. The border itself becomes highlighted with a blue line, white circles in each corner, white boxes in the middle of the lines and a green dot at the top. A new tab appears at the top of the workspace depending on the type of item with the border, such as a pink "Picture Tools" tab for an image border.

    • 4

Click the "Picture Border" or appropriate item button on the ribbon/toolbar below the tab. Select a small colored square from the fly-out menu below the button to instantly change the color of the border.
