How to Use Three-Way Swivel Hook Ups
A three-way swivel features three swivel eyes connected together, to which lines can be tied for forming fishing rigs. Three-way swivels are often used by surf anglers to create rigs for presenting a variety of live and cut bait to game fish. Rigging a three-way swivel allows for a degree of customization by the angler in regard to sinker weight and leader length.

1
Tie the end of the main fishing line to one of the eyes on the three-way swivel with a Uni knot. Moisten the knot before pulling it tight and cut excess line from the free end of the knot with scissors.
-
2
Tie an 18- to 24-inch length of 20-pound test or heavier monofilament fishing line to one of two remaining eyes on the three-way swivel. Attach the line to the swivel eye with a Uni knot.

3
Tie a lead sinker, such as a pyramid or bank sinker, to the end of the monofilament line with a Uni knot. Choose a lead sinker that is 1-ounce or heavier, based on fishing conditions and personal preference.
-
4
Tie a 24- to 36-inch length of monofilament to the remaining eye of the three-way swivel with a Uni knot. Choose the exact line length based on fish species, conditions and personal preference.
-
5
Attach a circle bait-holder hook to the free end of the monofilament line with a Palomar knot. Moisten the knot before pulling it tight and trim excess line with scissors.
-
6
Place live or cut bait on the bait-holder hook. Cast the three way rig out just beyond the breakers of the surf and allow it to sink to the sandy bottom.
-
7
Raise the rod tip when a fish takes the bait and hook. Set the hook by sweeping the rod back and reeling down on the line. Maintain a tight line while reeling in the fish.
