How to Measure Sleeve Length for Graduation Gowns
Graduation day marks the celebration of an amazing accomplishment. Whether graduating from high school, college or receiving a post-bachelor's degree, most graduates choose to participate in their graduation ceremony. It is an opportunity for friends and family to show their pride as they watch the graduate walk across the stage. Fellow graduates can also celebrate their great accomplishment together as they cheer for each other. There will be many pictures of you in your gown on graduation day and you will want to look your best. Take your measurements properly to ensure you order the right size.

1
Purchase a measuring tape if you do not already have one at home. Ask a helper to help you take the measurements for the graduation gown.
-
2
Stand with both arms hanging down at your sides for the sleeve length measurement. Ask your helper to begin measuring at the nape of your neck. Continue measuring to the tip of the shoulder and down the arm to the wrist. This is one continuous measurement. Record the measurement in inches. The sleeves of the gown should come down to your wrists. The gown sleeves will fall at about the same length as the shirt or jacket sleeve you are wearing under your gown. Graduates who earned a master's degree will wear gowns with longer, oblong-shaped sleeves and doctoral graduates will have bell-shaped sleeves.

Take measurements for the length of the gown too. This measurement is needed to order a graduation gown. Have your helper measure from the top of your head to the floor. You should wear shoes while your height is being measured. Record the measurements in feet and inches.
