How to Make a Cobra-Stich Keychain
Homemade lanyard crafts are fun for children of all ages, but easy enough for the young ones. The cobra stitch is a very basic pattern that can be completed using a single piece of cord or, to add some extra color to the design, a pair of cords. The cobra is useful when making key chains as you can slip the ring over the cord at the beginning without ever interfering with the stitching.
Instructions

1
Pass one cord through the key ring and fold the cord in half so that the ring is at the center of the cord.
-
2
Position the middle of the second cord behind both ends of the folded cord, with the second cord approximately 0.5 inch to 1 inch away from the key ring.
-
-
3
Pass the right end of the second cord over both ends of the folded cord, so it is now on the left side.
-
4
Pass the left loose end over the section of the right loose end that has crossed the folded cord, then pass the left end behind the folded cord.
-
5
Weave the left loose end through the loop formed when you passed the right loose end over the folded cord.
-
6
Pull both loose ends to tighten the stitch.
-
7
Repeat the stitch, always using the same end for each role, meaning for odd numbered stitches the right end is crossed over and the left is woven, while for even number stitches the left loose end is crossed over and the right is woven.
-
8
Tie off each loose end when you have reached the required length, then cut off any excess cord.
