How to Uninstall Add Ons in Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer comes loaded with important add-ons, applications that add new features or options to the browser. These add-ons can help you access Windows Live quickly or allow your virus protection software to scan pages. When you visit a website requiring a specific add-on, Internet Explorer gives you the option to download it. Some of these add-ons can negatively affect the browser, causing it to run slowly. If this occurs, try uninstalling the item from Internet Explorer's add-on manager.

Instructions

    • 1

      Load Internet Explorer.

    • 2

Click "Tools" from the "Command Bar" on the right to view a drop-down list.

    • 3

Click "Manage Add-ons." The add-on manager opens.

    • 4

Browse the installed add-ons in the pane on the right side of the "Manage Add-ons" window. Select an option from the left pane to change the type of add-on appearing in the right pane.

    • 5

      Right-click an add-on. Options appear.

    • 6

Click "Remove" or "Disable" from the menu.

    • 7

Click "Yes" to uninstall or disable the add-on.

Tips & Warnings

  • Vital system components, such as anti-virus add-ons, do not have the "Remove" option.
