How to Write Thank You Letters to Organizations

How to Write Thank You Letters to Organizations thumbnail
Organizations sometimes frame thank you letters and hang them.

Organizations donate millions of dollars each year to aid charitable causes. These causes can be for anything from the arts to animal shelters. When your organization receives funding from a private organization, you will need to write a thank you letter that expresses your appreciation for their donation, no matter the size of the donation. Thank you letters do not have to be long or detailed; a brief, sincere note will suffice.

Instructions

    • 1

Load a piece of company letterhead into your printer. This thank you letter is coming from your organization, so it should be written on official letterhead if you have some. If you do not have letterhead, type your organization's name and address in the upper-left corner of the page. Skip a line space.

    • 2

Type the date. Skip a line space. If you have a contact person at their organization, type her name. Type the organizations' name and their address directly under the contact person's name, if applicable. Skip another line space.

    • 3

Create the salutation by typing "Dear Dr./Mr./Ms. (Last name)" followed by a colon. If you don't have a contact person at the organization, type "Dear (Organization Name)" followed by a colon.

    • 4

Thank the organization right away in the first paragraph. If they donated specific items, mention those. If they donated money, you may choose to mention the amount or simply choose to thank them for their monetary donation. Be specific about which program they donated to and how the money will be used. Skip an additional line space.
