Search for hidden treasures using your metal detector.

A metal detector is a piece of equipment used to detect valuables such as jewelry and coins underground. When using a metal detector, it is best to go where people have been or lived before. Some of the best areas to search, according to the Kellyco test team, are parks, old school sites, church yards, picnic areas and seaside beaches.

Instructions

    • 1

Consult the user guide for exact instructions on how to assemble your metal detector.

    • 2

Place your arm into the arm rest and power on the device using the power button.

    • 3

Adjust the sensitivity setting on the device -- if the machine chatters, reduce the sensitivity until the chatter goes away.

    • 4

Adjust the discrimination settings; it is recommended to calibrate these settings just enough so that the detector will ignore iron and foil.

    • 5

Hold the detector so that the coil hovers just above the ground. Slowly sweep from side to side, moving forward slightly at the farthest point of each sweep.

    • 6

Listen for the sounds the detector makes; if you hear a beep, run the detector forward and backwards over the area to pinpoint the strongest signal area. Once you have found the strongest area, you can commence digging.
