How to Hide Objects From Thieves
A burglary occurs in the United States approximately every 15 seconds. A burglary can leave you shaken and with a sense of insecurity. Many homeowners invest in a home security system, but unless it is used consistently, there is still the threat of your house being invaded by thieves. Burglars know of all the common hiding spots and will often look until they find something that looks valuable to them. There is a time allotment for them to look around, however, so hiding valuables may prevent theft. In order for this to be effective, you have to hide your items in an inconspicuous location. Hiding Your Valuables
-
1
Locate the main living area in your house that looks the most inviting. In the living room you can hide money or small valuables in inconspicuous places, such as inside a zippered couch cushion, underneath the framework of your couch, behind some wall moulding or within a secure area underneath your floorboards. You can also hide items in the kitchen, such as in the freezer or refrigerator inside a box or a bag of a frozen item, or inside an old jar.

Hide your money and other valuables in the least suspecting place in the sleeping areas. An adult bedroom is more prone to be ransacked than a child's room. A child's room tends to have more clutter, such as toys and books. Thieves only have a few minutes to work and may be less likely to look through a room cluttered with toys. Some great places to hide valuables are inside a stuffed animal, in a toy box, between book pages and inside an electronic toy battery compartment.

Bury your money or other valuables in a secure location outside. Wrap the item in a plastic bag before doing so. Imitation rocks with small enclosed compartments are also available for concealing items; you can then place them in the garden along with the real rocks and stones.

Tips & Warnings
Leave money out deliberately in almost plain sight. Do not make it too obvious that you are doing this. Too little money left out will likely not work; you will need to leave enough out to convince the thief that he is getting something out of it.
Put money in a box on your dresser along with some jewelry that you do not really care about losing. The jewelry should look reasonably convincing.
A security box left in a common spot, such as under the bed or behind some furniture, may also be used as a decoy. Place some money in there along with something that appears valuable. This may satisfy the thief and encourage him to leave your property.
If you tend to be forgetful, make a note of where you hid your items or you may not be able to find them later on.
Be sure that other people in your house know where you are hiding things so that they do not accidently get thrown out.
