The term "frappe" is used for any iced coffee that has been blended. Though stores like Starbucks have made this coffee drink famous, it was around for years before that. With a few simple ingredients like coffee, cream and chocolate you can make your own frappe at home just like the professionals. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • 2 cups hot brewed coffee
  • 2 tbsp. granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/2 cup coffee ice cream
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract, coffee extract or chocolate syrup
  • 1 tsp. coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 2 oz. hot chocolate mix, white chocolate mix or peppermint chocolate cocoa mix (optional)
  • Whipped cream, chocolate shavings or caramel sauce (optional)
  • Blender
  • Heatproof bowl
  • Spoon
  • Ice cube trays with lids, or foil to cover
  • Glasses
  • Spoons or straws

Instructions

      Pour coffee into the bowl. If you want a mocha, add optional hot chocolate mix. Use milk chocolate cocoa for mocha, use white chocolate for white mocha and use peppermint chocolate for a peppermint mocha. Add sugar. Use a spoon to mix until hot chocolate and/or sugar have dissolved.

      Carefully pour the coffee mixture into the ice cube trays. Cover ice cube trays with tray covers or aluminum foil. Freeze for at least three hours or store as long as one week.

      Add heavy cream, ice cream, liqueur, vanilla and any other flavoring of your choice to the blender. Use chocolate syrup for added chocolate flavor or coffee extract for a stronger coffee flavor. Remove coffee ice cubes from the freezer and place in the blender, five or six cubes at a time. Puree the mixture until completely smooth.

      Serve in tall glasses with a spoon or straw. Top frappes with whipped cream, caramel sauce or chocolate shavings if desired.
