How to Add Tags to Twitter
If you are relatively new to Twitter, you may be somewhat mystified by the occasional appearance of the pound symbol "#" followed by some combination of letters or numbers. Those contraptions are called "tags" or "hashtags." They designate a tweet as pertaining to a certain topic. For example, "#bowling" shows that the tweet is related to bowling. Users can search for the hashtag "#bowling" to display all tweets in which it appears. It is easy to add a tag to a tweet on Twitter.
Instructions
-
-
1
Log into your Twitter account on the Twitter homepage at twitter.com.
-
2
Type a Twitter status update into the "What's happening?" box near the top of the Twitter homepage. The update or "tweet" can be anything you want to say. Leave some room for the hashtag.
-
-
3
Type "#" (without the quotation marks) followed immediately by a topic you want to include (no spaces.) This is the tag or hashtag for the tweet.
-
4
Edit the tweet down if it exceeds 140 characters. Make sure the hashtag looks the way you want it to look, then click "Tweet."

Tips & Warnings
Twitter automatically converts hashtags to clickable search queries. Try clicking a hashtag in your Twitter timeline from a user besides yourself. You will see a list of search results for that hashtag. The same thing happens when you create a hashtag; your followers can click your hashtag to view related tweets.
