Installation of VoIP
If you're tired of the high prices charged for land-line telephone services but aren't yet ready to completely rid yourself of your home telephone, Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) may be the answer. VoIP is an option that runs off of your high-speed Internet connection. Most VoIP service providers don't charge long-distance fees per call; typically you can call most locations in the world for a low monthly fee. All you need to do is properly install the equipment.
Things You'll Need
- Ethernet cable
- High-speed Internet modem
- VoIP receiver
- Telephone cable
- Telephone

Plug the Ethernet cable into one of the "Out" ports on the high-speed Internet modem. Attach the opposite end into the "In" port on the rear of your VoIP receiver.

Connect the telephone cable into one of the "Out" ports on your VoIP receiver, and then insert the free end into the input jack on your telephone.

Open your Internet browser and navigate to the VoIP provider's website. Select the "Activate" option, and then fill in all required information. Choose one of the available telephone numbers with your area code, and decide which service plan you want. Submit the information. Your telephone number is now live.
