How to Clean Technibond

Technibond is a registered trademark name for gold or platinum-plated jewelry sold exclusively by the Home Shopping Network (HSN), in both its televised and online incarnations. According to HSN, Technibond is fashioned of .925 sterling silver with plating of rose or yellow gold, or platinum. HSN sells rings, earrings, bracelets and necklaces of the material. Many designs are set with precious or semi-precious gemstones. Crystal, cubic zirconia and other less expensive materials may also be set in Technibond. HSN markets Technibond as a lower-cost alternative to solid gold or platinum pieces. Does this Spark an idea?

    • 3

Place a dab of silver cleaner on the soft cloth.

    • 4

Wipe down the piece of jewelry with the cleaner, taking care to bring the cleaner into contact with every surface.

    • 5

Polish with a clean soft cloth, rubbing gently to a burnished sheen.

Tips & Warnings

  • Savannah Evans, of Silver Lining Jewelry in Oakland, California suggests using toothpaste with a soft toothbrush to clean your Technibond pieces. A toothbrush is effective at cleaning the areas around gemstone settings, especially. After cleaning, wipe down and polish the piece with a clean, soft cloth.

  • Do not use liquid cleaners on Technibond jewelry. Liquid cleaners, whether applied with cloth or by dipping, "will eventually remove the (gold or platinum) plating," Evans said.
