How to Change the Text Tone on the iPhone

Text tone notifications alert you when you have a new text message on your iPhone. By default, the iPhone text tone is set to the "Tri-Tone" alert. You can modify your iPhone's default text tone, and other ringtone options and alert settings, using the Sound section of the Settings app.

Instructions

1. Tap the "Settings" app on the iPhone home screen.

2. Tap "Sounds" in the Settings menu that opens. The Sounds preferences page loads.

3. Tap "Text Tone" under the Ringer and Alerts section. The Text Tone page loads displaying a list of tone options.

4. Tap an tone to place a check mark to the right of the tone. The iPhone plays the tone. Preview other tones until you find the text tone you want to use.

5. Tap the "Sounds" button in the upper-left corner of the screen to keep the tone you've selected and exit the page.

6. Press the "Home" button beneath the iPhone screen to close any app windows and return to the home screen.
