How to Install Magic Bookmarks to a Thumbdrive thumbnail
Magic Bookmarks is a great way to keep your Internet bookmarks with you on the go.

Magic Bookmarks is an Internet-browser bookmark manager, allowing you to bring your bookmark collection with you on the go by storing your information on a thumb drive. A thumb drive, also known as a flash drive or USB drive, is a small, portable hard drive. This convenience allows you to keep the bookmarks you use on a regular basis, or keep for reference, handy -- whether you are at work, the library or a friend's house.

Instructions

    • 1

Download Magic Bookmarks Binary (see Resources). Ensure that you select the "Binary" download link found below the description of Magic Bookmarks, and not the file marked "Installation file," as you need the binary files to use the program on a thumb drive versus installing it on the hard drive.

    • 2

Create a directory on your thumb drive called "Magic Bookmarks." Do this by double-clicking on the "My Computer" or "Computer" icon on your desktop and double-clicking on your thumb drive from the available drives listed. Press "Ctrl," Shift" and "N" at the same time, then type "Magic Bookmarks" and press "Enter."

    • 3

Double-click on the Magic Bookmarks Binary zip file you download. Highlight all of the files within. Then drag and drop them into the "Magic Bookmarks" folder you just created on the thumb drive.

    • 4

Double-click on the "MagicBookmarks.exe" file on your thumb drive in the "Magic Bookmarks" folder once all of the files have been copied over.

    • 5

Click "Import Bookmarks" and select the Internet browser where your links are stored, then select "Default User." This imports all of your bookmarks onto your thumb drive. Repeat this process if you'd like to import bookmarks from more than one Internet browser.

Tips & Warnings

  • In the "Settings" menu, you can select what browser opens the bookmarks when they are opened.

  • Don't store private data, such as passwords, on thumb drives, as if the drive were lost, all of your information could be stolen. This is especially important when you are also using Magic Bookmarks, as you will not only be giving away your passwords, but also the sites where you use them.
