How to Apply Behr Weatherproofing Wood Finish

Protecting your outdoor natural wood décor is a simple with Behr weatherproofing wood finishes. The finishes come in multiple colors and can be applied to decks, tables, chairs, and benches. Behr weatherproofing wood finishes protect against moisture, mildew and also blocks UV rays that can cause wood to fade. Weatherproofing the wood with Behr water resistant finish also inhibits mold growth and maintains the luster and shine of natural wood.

Things You'll Need

• paint / stain stripper
• pad applicator

Instructions

1. Remove any old paint or coatings from the wood using paint or stain stripper. Follow all manufacturers' directions when using stripper. Thoroughly wash and clean the wood and allow it to fully dry.

2. Stir the wood finish using a paint sick or small piece of wood until the finish is fully mixed. Apply a small amount of finish to a hidden area on the wood using a pad applicator. Allow the finish to fully dry and verify the color and penetration is correct.

3. Working in small sections at a time, lightly saturate the wood and then use the pad applicator to remove any excess finish and evenly distribute the coating. Continue this process until all surfaces of the wood are finished.

4. Allow the finish to dry for one and two hours and then apply a second coat. Allow the second coat to fully dry.

Tips & Warnings

• Do not apply finish when the temperature is below 40°F (4.5°C), or above 90°F (32°C).

• Do not allow the finish to get wet before being completely dry.
