Burning music for beginners is a simple and hassle-free process due to the free audio software programs that come installed on every computer. If you use a PC, you can take advantage of Windows Media Player to burn music to a recordable CD. If you use a Mac, you can take advantage of iTunes to burn music to a recordable CD. However, you need a recordable CD, known as a CD-R, to burn music to a CD.

Instructions

  1. PC Platform

    • 1

      Click the "Start" button in the lower left corner of your screen. Select "Programs" from the "Start" menu.

      Click on "Windows Media Player" to open the program. Click the tab labeled "Burn" inside Windows Media Player.

      Click on and drag the music files you want to burn onto a CD into the "Burn List" that appears on the right side of Windows Media Player. Drag the music files up or down within the "Burn List" to arrange them in your preferred order.

      Click "Start Burn" when finished with your burn list. Insert a blank CD-R into your CD burner, and the burn list automatically is written to your CD-R.

      Eject the CD-R when the burning process has completed.

    Mac Platform

      Click on the "Finder" icon in the lower left corner of your screen. Select "Applications" from the "Finder" window.

      Double-click on "iTunes" to open the program. Click "File" and select "New Playlist" inside iTunes.

      Click on and drag the music files you want to burn onto a CD into the new playlist that appears in iTunes. Highlight the playlist when finished adding music to it, and click on and drag the music files up or down to arrange them in your preferred order.

      Click "Burn Disc" when finished with your playlist. Insert a blank CD-R into your CD burner.

      Click "Burn" and the playlist automatically is written to your CD-R.

      Eject the CD-R when the burning process is complete.
